About the Foundation

Thank you for your interest in The Timothy O'Connell Foundation.  The Timothy O’Connell Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, established in 2008 in honor and loving memory of Timothy O'Connell.  The Foundation's goals include:

  • the funding of programs and projects designed to research cures for acute myeloid leukemia and other cancers affecting children,
  • the provision of financial assistance to charities devoted to the needs of cancer patients who are under the age of eighteen (18) and their families, and
  • the provision of scholarship and fellowship grants to persons, including graduates of public schools of Holliston, Massachusetts (Tim’s hometown), who are dedicated to researching treatments of and cures for acute myeloid leukemia and other cancers affecting children.

The trustees of the Foundation feel that an effective way to achieve the Foundation’s goals is to work with existing organizations that share similar goals.  The primary activity of the Foundation is the provision of funding to organizations and institutions that are pursuing the research and development of treatments and cures for leukemia and other cancers.  Organizations on the “front line” of treatment and research, such as The Jimmy Fund, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Be the Match, the National Marrow Donor Program, the American Cancer Society, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Children’s Hospital-Boston, have been recipients of the Foundation’s giving, but so, too, have organizations which provide less direct but no less important “treatment” to children and their families affected by cancer, including, for instance, Make-A-Wish, The Children’s Hospital League, Flashes of Hope, Camp Sunshine, Give Kids the World, Super Sibs!, and the Ronald McDonald House.  To date, the Foundation has awarded nearly $100,000 in gifts to these and other organizations.

In further support of its goals, the Foundation has awarded $10,000 in scholarships to residents of Holliston, Massachusetts for post-secondary education in health-related fields of study.
